Great Scrap Quilt is officially in my shop! Guys this pattern was once again born of my own need for a pattern. Last year I made my Starglass pattern because I wanted a pattern that was scrappy but also could be made with FQ. Today’s pattern was inspired because of my full scrap jars. I needed a pattern that would use my smaller scraps and not generate MORE scraps. I especially wanted to use up my low volumes scraps I had been saving for years.

That is how GreatScrapQuilt came about. It was a new take on a chevron quilt. I loved the idea of pairing up the chevrons for an arrow look. It could be achieved by using the same fabric for each point (like I did) but also using the same tone. The versatility of this quilt is really exciting!

Let me take a moment to map out some possibilities. First you could do all one color. One of my pattern testers made an all blue (different blues) with low volume backgrounds. Another option is to make an ombre quilt making each block a different color. You could make alternating chevron rows or a black and white quilt. I love that this can be a themed quilt too. I made a Christmas version using all of my Christmas scraps. But how great would this look as a red, white and blue quilt.

Here is another fun thing about this pattern. It even works for newer quilters with no scraps! How you ask? I also wrote it up for charm packs and jelly rolls. Of course that also means you can include those orphan charm size and jelly roll strips. It really is designed to use up anything extra you have.
I am actually slowly hand quilting this so hence the in-progress pictures. I do intend to share what I am using and all about the quilting plan in a later post. For now though, I am absolutely glad I stopped at a baby size. I had wanted to make the small throw size but when I realized I wanted to try hand quilting with Pearl Cotton, I decided to set myself up for success and limit the size.

I just love the texture that the hand quilting is adding. Can you imagine how great it will look once all of those chevrons outlined? I can hardly wait.
Don’t forget the YEAR long quilt-along starts January 24th (that is Monday). With over 400 quilters signed up-it really is shaping up to be the community event I wanted. It can be so hard to use scraps-there is always another quilt ready to be made (and ahem more scraps). This pattern and quilt-along are designed to generate excitement about using those scraps while making a fabulous quilt. If you have not signed up yet-there is still time! Sign up here today and join me this year in using scraps. There will be fun check-ins a, monthly live cast on Instagram, and lots of tips and tricks. I will be sewing right there with you all and we can cheer each other on! Share your quilt blocks, fabrics, color pulls and progress on Instagram using the hash tags #greatscrapquilt and #greatscrapqal .
See you on Monday!
I purchased this pattern on the 20th. I still don’t have the download. All of the other patterns I’ve purchased from you I have had no problem with.
Hi Marla, Can you send me a message on Etsy from your order? I have had a few people say they hadn’t received the download from Etsy so I am sending it. Etsy usually sends it immediately via download link and also in an email. I am happy to send you the pattern. Thanks,
Andrea
I have downloaded the pattern for the Great Scrap Quilt but I haven’t connected with any video. Where do I find it?
HI! Sorry for the delay. It is saved to my instagram highlights. I do Lives on there.
